Driven by her love for photography, Olivia enrolled in a New Zealand Diploma in Creativity at with WelTec at Te Auaha campus. After just a few weeks into her programme, Olivia says studying creative technologies has opened up a world of new opportunities.

Like many, Olivia finished high school not sure of her next step. The opportunity the WelTec Diploma in Creativity provides to diversify her creative skills is what caught her eye when exploring her options; “Studying creative tech has opened up heaps of new possibilities for me – from sculptures to coding, there’s so much to explore.”

A natural artist, Olivia’s creative flair saw her NCEA level 3 photography portfolio selected for the annual ‘Top Art’ exhibition which showcases a selection of high-achieving portfolios across Aotearoa. But for Olivia, creativity is more than just what meets the eye.

After facing some tough times at school, photography became Olivia’s form of self-expression and led her to self-publish her own book; ‘Wellbeing Through My Lens’. The book features an imaginative series of original black and white photographs of everyday patterns, shapes and objects, all resembling a letter of the alphabet. Each letter then represents the beginning of a wellness quote and is what helped Olivia persevere through the hard days.

With the world at her fingertips, Olivia is rearing to get stuck into the rest of her studies and see what other creative avenues she might explore. Following her past successes, the future is bright for Olivia and we can’t wait to see what creative forms she cultivates next.
