Writing Short Fiction (Micro-credential)

Are you interested in writing original short stories? This course will take you through the many varied forms of applying techniques for writing original short stories and developing critiquing skills in this genre.

Flexible study options

This micro-credential is worth 10 credits. You can enrol in one micro-credential, or study multiple separately. 

These micro-credentials will be taught online over a period of eight each. A total of 12.5 hours per week. They have been developed for flexibility, so you can still work while you study. 

What you will learn

This micro-credential will develop the skills for writing original stories and applying the techniques of fiction writing. Write your first draft and analyse the work of peer and reflect the creative process. 

Content covered includes:

  • developing characters 
  • showing and telling
  • dialogue
  • elements of plot
  • writing a first draft
  • reading as a writer
