Nikita studied our Level 4 Certificate in Beauty Therapy—a year-long programme that prepares ākonga to confidently enter the industry. She gained skills in facial therapy, hair removal, manicure and pedicure, makeup, spray tanning, eyebrow shaping and eyelash tinting. Nikita’s tutors helped her get a foot in the door at Urban Sanctuary Day Spa through a work experience scheme during her studies. After graduating she was offered a full-time position, and now enjoys spending her days helping clients look and feel their best.
What does a day in your life look like?
My day is centered around our clients, ensuring that from the minute they step into our door they feel pampered, cared for, and relaxed. I advise clients on the best treatments for their needs and conduct multiple treatments of every kind. I do everything beauty therapy related—waxing, massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, micro-needling, the lot!
Where did your passion for beauty therapy start?
One of my friends studied beauty therapy, and after graduating she was easily able to find a job in Australia. I liked the idea of studying something practical and having the freedom to take that skill overseas.
What was your study experience like?
I loved the experience I had at WelTec. The passion my tutor had for every element of beauty therapy was contagious. She had invaluable knowledge from the industry, and she was eager to pass it on. I’m so thankful she taught me.
What made you choose WelTec?
I saw an ad pop up and thought ‘it’s popping up for a reason, go for it.’
Did you learn anything invaluable while studying that has really helped you in your career?
To always keep learning. Building on my knowledge both in and out of work has benefitted both myself and my clients, and ultimately, my career.
What’s next for you?
Urban Sanctuary is a good place for me to grow my skills, so I’m happy to stay here and keep pushing myself. My next step is to become a senior therapist.
