Youth Guarantee

Are you 16-24 years old? Youth Guarantee is an initiative that gives 16 to 24-year-olds the chance to study for FREE at Whitireia and WelTec, in a variety of different practical qualifications.

Youth Guarantee covers your course fees. You will be provided the use of all course required tools, as well as work boots and overalls should these be a course requirement. Travel allowance is available for ākonga who meet the eligibility criteria. This could be ideal if you want to keep learning but feel that school is no longer right for you. Eligible programmes offered in Level 3.

Entry Requirements

To qualify to study under the Youth Guarantee Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:

Be 16 to 24 years old (must be a domestic student- NZ citizen or resident) OR;
Be 15 years old when you start the programme and have an early leaving exemption from the Ministry of Education
Must meet entry criteria for your chosen programme
Must not have achieved a qualification at Level 3 or above

How do I gain a Youth Guarantee scholarship?

Submit you application for your preferred programme using our Online Application Form.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, Whitireia and WelTec will assess your application for a Youth Guarantee scholarship.
You will be advised prior to the start date of your programme if you have gained a Youth Guarantee scholarship.
