Skills in the automotive industry are in high demand. Work with cars and various equipment in our modern automotive workshops.  

Depending on what programme you study, you could find yourself learning how to service engines and driveline systems, or applying collision repair and refinishing knowledge to repair damaged vehicles.  

If you're an apprentice, our level 4 programme will help you become a fully qualified automotive engineer.

New Zealand Certificate in Electric Vehicle Automotive Engineering (Level 5)

Gain the skills and knowledge to diagnose and repair faults in battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles and machines. Learn to diagnose, analyse and repair uncommon and complex energy supply system faults to automotive industry standards.

New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Manufacturing and Technology)

Sample a range of skills within the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, while gaining career, study, and employment skills at the same time. Students will get introductory skills in engines, brake systems, collision repair, metalwork and fastening systems. Learn how to safely use and maintain tools, perform calculations and choose materials to complete projects. After completing this programme, students can then go on to study their trade of choice.

New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3)

Discover the basics of automotive engineering. Learn how to use tools to complete basic engineering tasks, perform minor servicing tasks on engines and driveline systems and apply fundamental knowledge by completing tasks on automotive systems including electrical. This programme will set you up to start an automotive engineering apprenticeship.

New Zealand Certificate in Collision Repair and Automotive Refinishing

Learn the fundamental skills needed to become successful in the automotive collision repair industry. Students will be taught how to apply collision repair and refinishing knowledge to repair minor damage in a supervised setting. Completing this programme allows ākonga (students) to start an apprenticeship.

New Zealand Certificate in Light Automotive Engineering (Level 4)

Study light automotive engineering and learn from the best. Get the diagnostic skills needed to work on a range of light vehicles. Through block courses and part-time study with evening classes, you'll be able to complete study while continuing to work with your employer as an apprentice in the automotive industry. It's the best of both worlds.

Our facilities


Learn in facilities designed to teach you real skills including dedicated project spaces and new collision repair and refinishing workshops.

We have petrol, diesel and electrical engine repair workshops. Plus, panel beating and spray-painting booths.

You'll work on real vehicles with industry technology and equipment.

Automotive workshops are located at our Petone campus at 21 Kensington Avenue, Petone and our Porirua campus 3 Wi Neera Drive, Elsdon, Porirua
