Tuvalu Language Week 2024

29 September - 05 October 2024

Talofa!

The theme for Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu | Tuvalu Language Week 2024 is 'Taofi mau ki tau ‘gana, mo tou gaugaleo, me ko tou iloga tena’, which means ‘Uphold your language and dialect, for it is your identity’. This highlights that language is a key part of who we are.

We will be celebrating Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu with on-campus events. Check back here before the week to find out what's happening! In the meantime, familiarise yourself with these everyday terms:

  • Talofa: Greetings/Hello
  • Talofa koutou: Greetings Everyone
  • Tofa - Fano La: Goodbye – to those who are leaving
  • Tofa - Nofo La: Goodbye – to those who are staying
  • Fakamolemole: Please
  • Fakafetai: Thank you
