Whitireia and WelTec kaimahi undertake research that is innovative, groundbreaking, contemporary, industry relevant and fosters best teaching practice. Our kaimahi are committed to research that directly benefits our mana whenua partners – Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Te Āti Awa and our Pacific community. Our kamahi have established research collaborations with Government departments, Crown Research Institutes, industry stakeholders and other tertiary education providers. Our strength is in our diversity, industry relevance, teaching and learning focus and vitality.

Whitireia and WelTec is committed to supporting research being conducted in Aotearoa and across the wider Wellington region (e Upoko o te Ika a Māui), which leads to new knowledge and best practice in teaching and industry. If you are an emerging or experienced researcher who would like to conduct research with our kaimahi and ākonga, then you will need approval from the Whitireia and WelTec Ethics and Research Committee. Contact our research team at research@wandw.ac.nz who will guide you in this process.
Please note that in order for research posters or advertisements to be displayed or distributed, you will need prior ethics approval from the Whitireia and WelTec Ethics and Research Committee.
Whitireia and WelTec researchers undertake studies in a wide range of fields, including, but not limited to, health and wellbeing, social services, innovation, design, information technology, creativity, performance and culinary arts, engineering, construction, and research grounded in Kaupapa Māori and Pacific frameworks. Whitireia and WelTec researchers have strong relationships with mana whenua Ngāti Toa Rangitira and Te Āti Awa, as well as the local Pacific community.
The Research and Innovation Team support kamahi with access to potential external funding opportunities, assistance with grant writing, navigation of the ethics and contestable funding processes, professional networking opportunities, PBRF and regulatory/reporting requirements.
