Whitireia and WelTec now subsidiaries of the Institute of Skills & Technology

Published on

As at today (1 April 2020), Whitireia and WelTec are limited liability companies (legally known as Whitireia Community Polytechnic Limited and Wellington Institute of Technology Limited) and wholly-owned subsidiaries of the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (IST).

This move is part of the changes under the Education (Vocational Education and Training Reform) Amendment Act, in line with the Government’s reform of our sector. Under the Act, all 16 of the country's institutes of technology and polytechnics are being merged into the Institute of Skills and Technology.

The latest board member to join our new joint board has been appointed and is Kathy Grant, a member of the NZIST governing council. Kathy joins Justin Lester (Chair), Linda Meade (Deputy Chair), Caitlin Barlow-Groome, Sue Hope, Kura Moeahu (Te Āti Awa) and Ranei Wineera-Parai (Ngāti Toa).

Our new board will hold its first meeting online at 9am this Friday 3rd of April. Members of the public are entitled to attend board meetings; please contact office@wandw.ac.nz if you would like log-in details to attend remotely.
