Wellington Trades Academy

Wellington Trades Academy + School = Achievement

Enjoy the benefits of staying at school while you learn new skills, and achieving school qualification.

Your weekly timetable will look like:

3 or 4 – days at school

2 or 1 – days of practical learning

We partner with local secondary schools to provide year-long training programmes that allow you to achieve NCEA Level 2 or in some cases Level 3 units and get ready for employment or higher-level qualifications.

The programme is Fees Free, there are no course costs and all equipment, class materials, and safety gear is provided free of charge. Travel is provided free, subject to you meeting the Ministry of Education requirements.

If you’re accepted into the Trades Academy, you’ll be able to stay at school and complete NCEA, while at the same time working towards a qualification in a trade of your choice.

Student Experiences

Our students have shared their thoughts about our Trades Academy courses

“I’m in an Animal Care course learning about animal, anatomy, care and welfare practices. The tutors are incredibly passionate about teaching animal practices and want us too not only do the work but understand it as well. I thoroughly enjoy their classes and their willingness to help me learn and improve my knowledge in this field has been inspirational”.

“My school didn’t have enough subjects to keep me interested, so I love now we are back on site. I learn well doing hands on activities and the tutors are helpful and take time to explain things that I don’t understand. The course has helped me work out what I want to do when I leave school -  I wouldn’t still be attending school if I wasn’t on this course. ”.

“ I’m enjoying the Health Science programme, as it is giving me the confidence to seriously consider future study in the Health sector, I’m looking at applying for the Bachelor of Nursing next year.  I feel more confident as my course is covering  Human Anatomy and Physiology which I wasn’t able to do at school".
