Wellington is a city, but it has plenty of outdoor activities on offer. We have a huge number of beaches right in walking distance from our Wellington campus. You can go biking on the waterfront, kayaking in the marina, and rambling up Mount Victoria.

Things to Do

You’ll never be bored in Wellington. Our Hospitality Campus and Te Auaha campuses are located in downtown Wellington, so everything is at your doorstep. 

Here’s a list of some of the most popular Wellington attractions when you decide to take a break from the books:

 

Te Papa

Te Papa is New Zealand’s national museum. This is where you can explore New Zealand's history, earthquakes and all! Te Papa is a world leader in interactive and visitor experience museum experiences. Entry is free.

 

ZEALANDIA Sanctuary

Sat Kia Ora to the world's first fully-fenced ecosanctuary ZEALANDIA and is home to a number of rare native birds, reptiles, frogs and plants. Spread over 225 hectares, a visit to ZEALANDIA is a unique experience. ZEALANDIA run a free shuttle bus from the Wakefield Street and from the top of the Cable Car, but tickets cost $21.00.

 

Wellington Cable Car

The Wellington Cable Car, originally built in 1898, connects Kelburn with the city centre. The Cable Car is one of Wellington's most visited tourist attractions. It runs from Lambton Quay to the Botanic Gardens where there are amazing panoramic views of the city and waterfront. The Cable Car costs $5.00 for students.

 

Weta Workshop

Weta Workshop is a world-renowned special effect and design studio in Wellington's Miramar suburb. Owned by Peter Jackson himself, you can get close and personal with movie props, weapons, creatures, vehicles, and more on a Weta Studio Tours

 

Old St Paul's

Old St Paul's is one of New Zealand's most loved heritage places. Built in 1866 Old St Paul’s is a popular events venue and bands often play there. It’s currently closed for seismic strengthening but will re-open mid-2020.
